Biblical Chickenhood

All around us, we see the overall decline of civilization, the discarding of traditional restraints and natural functions, and the efforts to establish identity regardless of physiology. Not only is this an issue which affects us as humans, but it has the potential to uproot all forms of life, even poultry.

Imagine a world where hens no longer want to be shackled to their nests, valued only for what they can produce, mere “egg machines”. They want to assert their individuality. If a hen has the ability to wake up the entire farm at sunrise, why should she remain silent and only the roosters make all the noise?

Roosters no longer desire to be the beacons of consciousness. They want to be more chill... not so much like a drill sergeant. They are weary of the red flappy hairdo. They want to hit snooze and sleep in once in a while.

How do we respond to such a crisis?

First we need to codify a synthesis of biblical chickenhood by zooming in to passages that strictly address this topic.

Then we need to deal with the fact that some of these passages, on their face, often seem indefensible— no! offensive — to our modern worldview. We need to be winsome. We want to project a chickenhood which is biblical, while unshackling ourselves from the archaic or the mysogallinaceous. Ultimately, redemption transcends our physical state and allows us to rise to new levels of purpose and fulfillment. Mounting up with wings, etc.

Chickens today have seemingly unlimited options, attainments of which previous generations of avians could only dream. They need discernment to identify the realms previously withheld from chickens in the name of “biblical principles”, but which, in reality, violate none. In the marketplace of ideas, these birds must be equipped to decide independently which pursuits are biblical, which are unbiblical, and which are outside the realm of scripture.

And above all, chickens must be equipped to answer the age old question: ”Why did you cross the road?”

-----------

Christians care about the decline of society (meaning its divergency from God's good plan and the increase in that which opposes his good plan). We care about the infiltration of worldly and false ideas into the church. We care about the replacement and/or neglect of the authority of God's word in the lives of professing christians.

What shall our response be? One response has been to fight fire with fire. Compile an index of modern problems and locate their corresponding biblical solutions. And that can be a start in zooming in on issues; the scriptures were certainly designed to deal with lies and temptations. But God always gives us more than we expected…

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone,

but by every word of God.

Luke 4:4

What is the purpose of living by every word of God? Transformation!

And be not conformed to this world:

but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that good,

and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 12:2

As we seek to live by every word of God, studying the Bible verse by verse, we will discover many of the world's presuppositions are incorrect. We will find our tendency to measure "normal" by current trends is not supported by scripture. We will find that, though we live in a world with the same table of atomic weights, the same time for sunrise and sunset, the same properties of water... our purpose for doing things is different. Our purpose is different. This will enable us to get behind reactionary summaries and instead press on towards God's good purposes in every part of life, including that pertaining to his good, acceptable and perfect will for women.

God's wisdom and power are demonstrated in every facet of creation.... including that of the daughters of Eve. Our call is to know and do the will of the Lord. We can trust his plan for our lives. And who is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? 1 Peter 3:13

After all, it's not just about the chicken crossing the road.

It's about why.
